Kicking out Cars and Coffee is a short sighted decision without basis. The event was of national scale and that could have been leverage for greatness and instead it led to fear of unknown and baseless concern (8+ years with zero issues). The folks who attended and ran the event were respectful and the onlookers who faithfully came out each month enjoyed it and are now simply going to shift to a new venue and take that opportunity elsewhere. Amateur leadership for a suburb that could have used this and Paisley Park to build something even greater. Instead you are now losing out. The city council should be ashamed.
Disappointed in the city for ending their support of Cars and Coffee - a great community event that brought in people from throughout the twin cities and greater metro. City leadership could have handled the situation a lot better. Just because you have power doesn't mean you need to exercise it.
Kicking out one of the largest non profit/charity Cars & Coffee events is a huge mistake. You were bringing thousands of consumers to your city who spent money each first Saturday of the month.
Bullied out one of the largest monthly Charity Car show in the Midwest, MN C&C. They did it in a classless move days before the next event, by making unreasonable requirements of the charity. Instead of wanting to help promote and support this amazing charity event they sought to gain revenue from it by requiring the event attendees to use public transportation, require ticket sales(event was free, generously supported by the event's sponsors), and reduce the size of the show.
Very disappointed in the decision by city officials and Lt. Kittleson in deeming the monthly Cars and Coffee event a "public safety hazard", especially considering 9 years of no issues. This event brought thousands to the city of Chanhassen, where they spent money and benefited the local economy. It seems the city officials do not care much about the economic success of their own city. The unreasonable restrictions, such as selling tickets in advance and reducing attendance by 80% (yes, 80%), imposed by the city on the event permit holders are no doubt in order for the city to generate profit from the event, which has always been and will always be free. Thousands of like-minded enthusiasts have gathered at the Chanhassen AutoMotorPlex to meet and talk about their passion, and to see many high-end and modified vehicles. In my 3 years of attending, there has never been a major problem or issue and the event staff are very responsible in their management of the event. Sad to see it go, but a new location is in the works and we only have bigger things ahead, outside of the city of Chanhassen.
What a shame this is. Whoever is responsible for this decision isn't very business minded. It has been a safe event for the past 8+ years.
